What is Off Target?

A collection of writing focused on football and how it illuminates fault lines in societies. Namely race, class, and more broadly how capital uses people’s passion for the sport as a means to its own end.

Who are you?

I’m Daniel Tiluk. A former English/sociology major who’s found my way writing and talking about football since 2013, most notably at Bleacher Report. I’m a podcast host/editor. I help make Talking Tacticsa weekly football show with my brothers Have Hope and Carl Anka. We started in 2016, and somehow still going.

Outside of that, you should know I was born in Canada, live in the United States, represent Uganda (Africa philosophically), and I’m told I support Chelsea—a relationship I’m trying to escape.

Why are you writing Off Target?

In the course of making our podcast I’ve found myself doing more talking than writing. The written word is how I best express my thoughts and feelings, so giving myself a project seems a good way to get the pen moving.

If in the process you—the reader—get some interesting things to think about, perhaps it can be a happy marriage.

What do I get with my subscription?

The commitment I will write one article every week. In the event more writing is requested, in due time I’ll set up subscriptions for second article.

Though a trained writer, I talk more than I write. This is an effort to correct that.
